Re: Sky Trek Tower Questions

1. Why is the cabin for Sky Trek Tower kept at the top of the tower in the winter? I assume the system works via counter-weight inside the tower and obviously, it's easier to let the counter-weight sit on the ground in the off season. That is correct. Also, with it being like a giant elevator, the ...

RandyV,

I went through my pictures and found one that shows close to the exact spot but 18 and 1/2 years later. My picture was taken on April 26, 1999.

Here is Burgers On the Run (now called Wascal's) in Gurnee. This was taken on Sunday, October 30, 2005. It is kind of at a distance, but it is the building with the red roof. http://CPE-65-29-35-94.wi.res.rr.com:2711/jcpics/brian/MGAParksPhotos/BurgersOnTheRun.jpg This of course is in County Fair, w...

I do the same. I used to live in Park City, IL before moving to Zion. At the time, I was married as well. So, my wife would send me to the store, and would wonder why it would take me 2 hours to get a gallon of Milk! This of course only worked while the park was open. She finally got "wis...

Was Burgers on the run that wierd looking building next to the Fling's enterance? No. That building is a food place, but they served cotton candy, snow cones, and slushies. At one time, the place was called "Sticky Fingers". I'm not sure if that is still the name, or if it has changed nam...

Oh yeah! Now that you say that, I see the orange flags at the front of the park, and the one on top of the tower as well.

Good EYE!

I would say about 11 months. Ground was broken on June 17, 1980, and press day for the ride was on May 20, 1981.

RLAiello, Thanks so much for posting those consturction pictures of the American Eagle. Some of them I have seen before, as they appear in the book "The American Scream Machine" by Robert Cartman. But, most of them I had not seen, and it was great to see them. From what the park has told m...

Here is an aerial photo of the American Eagle and the southern portion of the park. I believe this is taken in 1988 during off season. Z Force is present. ZForce was removed at the end of the 1987 season. So, its not 1988. Splash Water Falls was added for the 1986 season, and is present in that pic...

I have a few of those comp tickets from my days of working at the park. I put them in a scrapbook.
