I remember that book from 1982. That was the book that I had purchased in 1983 from a bargain closeout of Marriot's merchandise. Thanks for the memories...:) While this is a little late, I also noticed the big maps from 1986 and 1987. I believe I once had both of them. Good job scanning those becaus...

I look at it this way. If Six Flag is 45 then Great America is still ONLY a kid. Which might actually be a good thing Here's hoping that the parks bring back some of the theming elements in the next couple of years. That is what I remember and love most about Great America.... (Based on the Yankee C...

Nice work on the capture. I missed this on TV, was good to see it :-)

It wasn't a bad retrospective, but I think you'd probably need about 1/2 hour feature to do this park justice over 30 years...

Somehow that doesn't suprise me... after all, we're looking at one big circle against three concentric circles. Interesting thing about the Huss site.... If you go to their main page, you can't find the "Troika" anywhere (they're no longer manufacturing them?) However the classic ride sear...

Here's a crazy thought.... I know that they took the triple play out of Santa Clara and someone mentioned that a "flat ride" would probably be added there in its place. What if that flat ride turned out to be the "Orbit" as they did in Gurnee after removing all the ride for the W...

Maybe what actually happened is similar to what happened with the Whizzer where public outcry convinced park officials that renovating it and keeping it was a good idea?

(I agree though that this discussion really belongs on the other thread, so this is my LAST post on this one...)

Man this stinks...(I looked at the map) While the layout is similar to the Gurnee Park, they have totally gone in a different direction in the past few years.

Oh well, there's always the memories that you had when the park was owned by Mariott....

The other story I heard was that at one time during a morning test run too much force was generated and the train contacted the "stopper" at the top, it was then knocked off and fell to the ground and into a dumpster. This reminds me of the time I did that in Rollercoaster Tycoon :-) Seri...

Well I heard a rumor that Premier Parks was looking to buy Paramount, so maybe if THAT happens, the madness will stop

Marky Mark wrote:Oh yea...13 times in like a 25 min period on the Tidal Wave was certainly enough to make me sick.

Still a great ride though...I was just on it last season at Kentucky Kingdom. Sweet!
I'm going to have to go down to that park (by Louisville) and ride it... would be great to relive THAT memory...

One thing, I was looking at the picture with the "train stuck" in position (as when it failed to clear the loop coming backwards.) This never happened to me so I have to ask, how often did that happen (on the average) and about how long did it take to get the ride back to "normal"...

myself I would guess too old and too costly to maintain (the Edge is over 23 years old now so probably past its prime...) I used to like riding the Edge... BTW even though supposedly they were never going to reopen the Edge... I distinctly remember one time in 1985 where the ride was open and I got ...

JW,

I would guess 41 (based on screenname if year is 1965)....
As for weight... I'll make a run of the mill guess of 175 pounds...

One thing I've always wondered when I was a kid was HOW the sky rides operated... For those people who did maintenance on the sky rides, exactly how often would they "break down"... I know they couldn't be operated on windy days.... BTW Steve, thanks for the pictures of the "Southern ...
