2006 Opening Day Pictures

Everyone, Here are a few pictures from Opening Day yesterday at Great America in Gurnee, IL. At the front of the park at 9:45 AM, they did a balloon release. Notice the 45 balloon thing in the middle of the reflection pond. http://CPE-65-29-35-94.wi.res.rr.com:2711/jcpics/brian/MGAParksPhotos/Openin...

I know Great America in Gurnee never had one of these. I am not sure if Santa Clara did or not.

Six Flags turns 45

Everyone, Not sure exactly where to post this on the site, but I noticed it today when I went to look at the Six Flags webpage. http://CPE-65-29-35-94.wi.res.rr.com:2711/jcpics/brian/MGAParksPhotos/45AnniversaryLogo.jpg This year marks the 45th anniversary of Six Flags. It was August 1, 1961 that Si...

For starters, the two pictures you reference of Sky Whirl are from each park. The first http://www.greatamericaparks.com/sg/rides/county/skywhirl/skywhirl043.jpg is from Santa Clara....that's the easy one, as Steve says so on the bottom of the page! The other picture http://www.greatamericapar...

Steven,

Yes, good job indeed. It was nice to see pictures of the orginial logo's again on the train.

Keep up the great job Steven!

Also, I would like to add that the additions to the member photo galleries the past few days have been great as well. :D

Yep. Check out my photo album for a view of the Whirligig's guts. Bet you didn't know it was green inside! PPG I think over the years they painted the center of it. Here is a picture from May of 2001 when they moved it back in front of Batman. Season opened, and the ride was not quite ready yet. ht...

Yes I agree! Great post by Tech Services 1 letting us all know everything in that picture!

I know when I started at the park in 1988, the Reel-to-reel decks were still there. I don't remember if they were still there when I left in 1992 or not.

Re: Thanks

So, can anyone tell me what my handle, "Signal 6" means? In 1990, I worked in Park Services, but I worked the backstage areas of the park (employee break areas, the service road, etc). I also worked in the picnic grove as well. Because me and my crew (of 3) could be anywhere in the park, ...

Yes, a group of highschool students (on a dare from what I was told) stole the spider right off the ride. They did it in the middle of the night. I know they also broke a few of the flood lights so that the ride would be in the dark. The next morning, the park noticed it was gone, and of course call...

The Eagle Model??? I knew they would pull that thing out for the 30th anniversary. From what I remember, that thing was quite large. If you took pictures, please post them soon. I'm guessing the Park Model you saw looked like this? 8) http://www.greatamericaparks.com/sg/history/model/gmodel01.jpg Th...
