There are some really fun videos of the rides on YouTube.

Of course, they are all kinda stupid for recording while on rides-- being all dangerous and against the rules and such...

But still. some of them are pretty fun!

Yeah that's the story I heard when I started working there in '88, and the basic gist was that the park management didn't want to host another Grad Night event again after the shooting incident. Apparently the shooting occurred in the parking lot and nobody was injured. That's what I had heard. Anyo...

I miss Tidal Wave and Sky Whirl. From the Marriott days through the first half of the Six Flags days, those rides were part of what DEFINED Great America. They were part of the landscape. And now they're gone... and the park hasn't ever been the same since. I mean... change is good and all, but some...

Re: Sky Whirl

Anyway, why did they change the name in Santa Clara from Sky Whirl to Triple Wheel? I cannot seem to remember the reason. Guests probably could care less, but I remember it was a bad buzz around employees. I think they changed it when Paramount took over... I know when I visited in 1990 it was call...

Wow... color me wrong!

But when I worked there, I never saw a plaque there. So it was probably removed after Six Flags bought the park.

There never was a plaque when Marriott owned the parks. Santa Clara's plaque was installed after the parks were sold, and Gurnee's plaque was installed only a few years ago or so.

I'd say the only times the relationship was probably ever strained were when SFGA tried to build something across the interstate (when they owned the land). There was a lot of disagreement about the traffic patterns, particularly when it came to the Washington Avenue interchange, which would have ha...

Previously in this thread there was mention of the three skyrides here in the Milwaukee area: The Summerfest grounds, The Zoo, and The Wisconsin State Fair Grounds. I went to the State Fair twice last week and took quite a few photos, including the skyride (The Sky Glider), check it out if your int...

I'm suprised it took them until 1992 or later to get Six Flags on the highway sign  Must be though, because I see Batman. It did say Six Flags... they had replaced "Marriott's with "Six Flags" when the changeover happened. This was when they changed the logo completely, so it ...

Highway Sign: Check out this pic I found!

Today I was at my mom's house helping her start cleaning out her basement in an effort to sell the house my sister and I grew up in. They lived there for 40 years, so the accumulation of junk is mind-boggling. Anyway, we were going through a bunch of stuff and I discovered a Polariod picture that I ...

Actually, as I remember it, the car ran through the station backwards with no brake application... but after the car ran through, the brakes would prepare for the train to come in after the spike, so you'd hear another "Clank"... when the train came off the spike, the brakes slowed it down...
