These pictures are AWESOME!!! Seriously... I LOVE seeing how things looked back then. I was there in '76 too, but I was quite little at the time, so I don't remember too much. :)

Thanks for posting the link!!!

I think you're right about Gurnee not being privy to the "Great Day" campaign. I don't remember any of those commercials either... I would have remembered that jingle-- it's VERY catchy and memorable. I still remember the original "Country of Fun for everyone" campaign from the f...

I still have The Demon theme along with a bunch of other park music and sounds (including the original Marriott advertising jingle) on my website - click this link to bring up a menu of items you can choose from:

My guess- they want to extend it closer to the parking lot so they can begin charging a separate admission for the park. Probably a smart move.

To make it even MORE confusing... The "Yukon Yahoo" in the Santa Clara park was moved to the same spot where "Hilltopper"/"Industrial Revolution" was in Gurnee. It still looks the same as it did when it was "Yukon Yahoo," in fact. It's called "Berserker&q...

Back when Steven posted the Park Model photos, he posted this photo that asked the question what this building was meant to be. Looks like we got the answer from this Site Plan!

Here's an interesting article I found in the New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/28/business/28wheels.html?ex=1343361600&en=ba21d0d4601d3187&ei=5124&partner=permalink&exprod=permalink Ferris wheels are big business again. They're once again becoming "all the rage.&quo...

Splashwater Falls Removal

So I know the park removed Splashwater Falls for this year. Any word on what will replace it? What is in its place now? Of course, my dream come true would be for the park to re-re-configure the Raceway to its ORIGINAL configuration (with the "figure 8" track rather than just the oval)... ...

MGA1 (and anyone else who comes across this)

I assume you probably have a copy of the Carousel Song in your possession, but if you don't, click here:

There's a whole bunch of park music - snippets mostly - for download.

Enjoy! :)

There was a running joke amongst Front Gate supervisors during my first go-around at the gate. Apparently a dog had escaped the Kennel in early '88-- the year Shock Wave was new-- and run into the ride area. So for at least two seasons, the joke was (and I apologize if I get this wrong): "Signa...
