When it first went over by B:TR it was called Gotham City Swinger. But later changed back to Whirligig. I'll never forget when they announced the name change for Whirligig to Gotham City Swinger. I mean really.... all the employees couldn't stop snickering. I think Whirligig is probably the m...

How about that... I never knew that about the Lobsters. Personally I wish they'd change the East River Crawler back to the Lobster. The thing HAS a lobster in the center still. It just doesn't make sense to rename it. Oh well... I'll take the ride being renamed rather than it being taken out complet...

When I visited the Santa Clara park in 1990, it was already 2 years after the Whizzer disappeared from the scene, however, the station still remained. I took pictures of that, as well as some pics of the site from the Sky Tower. Here they are: http://www.rcktman.com/whizzerstation1.jpg http://www.rc...

Actually Eagle Red is closed right now and the train is off the track The park does this often toward the end of the season to get a jump start on rehabbing and upkeep on the ride. When you have two trains like the Eagle has, it's easy to just shut down one side when the weekends start and leave th...

MGA Flip Book- Won From eBay!

I recently won a MGA picture flip book on eBay and wanted to share what was inside it with you all. I was in quite a bidding war for this little memento (and I do mean little... the size of this thing is just a little larger than a business card!) So here is what's inside! http://www.rcktman.com/fli...

That would be cool to see that model! Eagle really should get some TLC for 2006 (new paint). Many years ago, before the Web was even around in full force, I somehow got in contact with a member of ACE. He sent me a bunch of photocopied Marriott information and pictures. A good portion of those pict...

Re: Beverly Hills Cop 3

BTW: If you haven't seen this movie, RENT IT! It was filmed in Santa Clara and there are so many scenes of great america during the 80s. AND is there really an underground facility at PGA??? There never was, and never will be, an underground facility at either Great America. That was just Hollywood...

Re: MGA's origins

Wow! A campground near Marriott's Great America in its original plans? How could the planned but dropped MGA campground fit into the MGA theme park? Well there were 850 acres to play with! EIGHT HUNDRED AND FIFTY... Good LORD... that's huge. I think they were really trying to go after Disney at fir...

OH I forgot to mention... I was working at the park the night that Tidal Wave ran for the last time. They put out a call to everyone working that night to come and ride it one final time, so all the employees got a chance to ride it after the park closed. People were pretty emotional. It was like lo...

Thank you for the info. I think I've seen that book on Amazon. Just for clarification there are two books with nearly the same title. The out-of-print book is the one I mentioned; The Great American Amusement Parks which contain the two MGA photos and there's a newer book titled The American Amusem...

Cool story! Almost like reading a novel. :) I do know that there is a specific account number for money collected inside pools and waterways at SFGAm (from my years at Cash Control.) Counting that change is always a fun time (NOT), because of all the slugs and other crap that gets into the money tha...
