Splashwater Falls

Here are two scans of photos of Splashwater Falls from 1987. I remember when this ride was built. I was dissapointed that the Barney Oilfileds raceway was made smaller (and the 3rd lane was lost). As SWF was going up I kept hoping that the raised portion would be larger, but that didnt happen. Anyway, I have not been on this ride in ages, I wonder how popular it is these days now that it is almost 20 years old.

wow those are great pics, I love how you can see Zforce in the first one...Splashwater Falls usually has a long line on the hotter days

Yea, its still extremely popular on hot days. Picture Logger's Run and Yankee Clipper combined, but 10x wetter.

^not to mention the extra water when you get when standing on the bridge afterwards (only if you get a good splash though)

They should have made the bridge a little lower because last time i went on that bridge I barely got splashed.

Fact is, they had to tame down the splash after the ride was completed.
The first runs produced such a huge splash that the boats were getting swamped and had a difficult time making it back into the station. There was also concern about people getting knocked about on the bridge.
The front of the boats were reshaped to change the impact with the water. It's still an impressive splash, but the early days were really spectacular!

It really depends on how old you already were when Splashwater Falls first opened, 20 years ago.

I remember standing on the bridge in '87 and getting killed by the water. It took days for my shoes to dry out. It was very cool, though.

Man -- 20 years. I'm right in between you guys. I was 17 when Splashwater Falls was built.

I was 18 when Splashwater Falls opened. I started working at the park a year earlier.
