Wood VS Carpet on Columbia Carousel?

Post by BrianPlencner » Fri Jun 16, 2006 3:43 am

Everyone,

Not sure if this has been discussed yet, but another difference I have noticed between the two parks is with Columbia.

I did not know that Santa Clara's Columbia had a wood floor, while the Gurnee one had carpet.

You can see the wood floor of Santa Clara's in these pictures

And, the carpet on the one in Gurnee

I would be interested to find out why the difference. I am guessing that under the carpet is a wood floor. Could it look just as good as the one in Santa Clara?

I was at the park this week, so here is a current picture from Gurnee, showing the carpet on the floor. To my knowledge, the carpet has never been replaced, and its really starting to show its age. Hopefully, they replace it in the off season, or pull it up and go with a wood floor like Santa Clara has.

The wood floor looks better.

My guess would be the type of weather each park gets. I think a wood floor at Gurnee would need alot more maintance due to freezing temps, I've seen the pictures with the snow :) and the carpet would provide better traction.

Just my thoughts, my reasoning could be wrong.

I don't mind the carpet on Columbia. I like the wood floor but I think a different wood should be used. Maybe a little darker wood like maple.

Honestly, the carpet, if it stayed clean I would be fine with it... but they don't take very good care of it! Not only the carpet but the ride in general...

I wonder why the Santa Clara Columbia didn't get wood flooring on both levels though...

Yeah, when I said that Santa Clara had wood floors, I did not know that it was just wood on the upper level, and carpet on the lower one, untill I saw the pictures in that_guy's gallery.

I agree that the carpet is not a bad thing, as long as they keep it clean. I also know it is probably easier to maintain the carpet then a wood floor.

Really was just looking for some discussion on this. Thanks for the feedback so far.
