Gas Station

Post by Tanya »

In the early years (Santa Clara) there was a gas station in the far corner of the parking lot that the parking lot crew ran. Was there one in Gurnee as well?

Gurnee had one as well. I don't recall ever getting gas at it, but I know the park did have one. I don't believe I have any pictures of the gas station, but it was located somewhat close to where the sign is along the Tollway.

If I get the chance, I'll post a picture of the parkling lot, and circle where it used to be for reference.

It would be very interesting to see a picture of this gas station,(or where it used to be located).

I have a photo -- not yet scanned -- of Bugs and another character at the Gurnee gas station. This same photo was in one of the articles that Brian scanned. Whenever I can get it scanned, I'll let you know.

Does anyone remember what year the gas station was removed at Gurnee. I recall talking about it in the office years ago . But now I cannot remember anything specific.

Gas station removed

Post by RLAiello »

I think it was removed in the early 90s or so. I vaguely remember there being something in the GRAM (the employee newsletter) about it being closed, or maybe people just talked about it. I know it happened while I worked there though.

For some reason the link will not work, even though the page is still there...

I think it's still there but not open to the public. I swear I saw gas pumps by the toll booth thing at the enterance to the park.

That is interesting. It seems that the Gurnee gas station was much closer in. On the complete opposite side of the parking lot. Are the entrances to the parking lots opposite as well? Santa Clara's station was way out in the boonies, where I think there was a lone toll booth for busy days. ??
