Caption for Home Page Picture

Post by JW65 »

Steven,

Could you include a caption beneath the pictures you've been posting on the home page? There are some pictures that could use a bit of explanation.

Thanks for everything you are doing to make this a fun place to read, view, and share.

Hi, Jeff,

There's a caption there! Try resting your mouse pointer over the photo and the caption should appear.

The home page or "cover" photo is intended to spark some interest in the site. I usually switch that photo whenever there's been an update to the site.

Thanks for your kind words and thanks for your participation here on the forums!

Steven, for the home page picture, who are the 3 people, which park is it, and is that plaque still located someplace in the park? I found the caption, which says "we put the marriott in MGA", so I'm assuming the 3 people are the marriotts yes?

This photo is at Santa Clara.

I don't know what happened to either plaque. There was one at Gurnee, too. They were installed "permanently" at the front of the reflecting pool of the Carousel Columbia. The text on the plaque was the same as what appeared on this page of the park's opening invitation (scan courtesy of Brian):

It said:

Marriott's GREAT AMERICA

Is dedicated with pride to Mr. & Mrs. J.
Willard Marriott, Sr. who began as so
many have begun with only each other.

Together, they dreamed, and because this is
America where dreams can come true --
theirs became the worldwide Marriott
Corporation through their persistence,
labor, courage and faith.

As you go through this park may you enjoy
many fun-filled hours -- and in leaving, take
with you a lasting sense of the true greatness
of America.
