Scanned in Items from Gurnee

Post by BrianPlencner »

Everyone,

The Warren Newport Public Library in Gurnee, IL has quite the collection of items from the early years of the park. A few friends and I spent a few hours in there last fall and scanned in a bunch of things. Some of them are good, others are not so good. Most of them are newspapers items, so they did not scan in as good as I wanted them to. But, some of them turned out ok.

So, take a look, and enjoy!

Everyone,

Sorry that the link went down. I am hosting those on my own server, and the power went out today. I have an issue with my server that when the power comes back on, I have to press the F1 key to boot the server. I believe that is because I have a bad fan in it.

By the way, the server itself is a Compaq 4500 Rack machine. More info here, if you're interested

I paid $1 for it from my company. It runs great, but I have this issue every time the power goes out.

Again, sorry for the link going away, but all should be up and running now! :D

I worked at the Santa Clara Park 76 - 78

I had wondered if the Gurnee Park had them as well

and

did anyone save theirs
somehow I thing very few did
i feel like one of the very luck ones

The mgashows.net web site posted the scan of my opening day invitation
if you want to see the Santa Clara one.

Wow! Brian, thank you so much for posting these scans. The clippings bring back wonderful memories of happy times in the early years of Great America! One day I will have to stop by the library myself to see these items in person! Are they readily accessible? Again, many thanks!!!!!! :D
What a day, what a place! What a smile on my face! My first visit was June 21, 1976, when I was less than a month from turning 21!

You and everyone else are very welcome.

Yes, all you have to do is ask at the reference desk for the "Great America" archive folder, and they will pull it out for you. There was a ton of stuff in there that I did not even scan in. Make sure you allow yourself a few hours to look at it all.

Brian-

Cool reading. Were those mostly from one paper, or were they from several sources?
