From what I remember, at least in the Gurnee Park, the season ended each year around Columbus Day. So, the park was not open during the Halloween season.

After Six Flags took over, it was not until 1991 that they decided to stay open longer, and do Fright Fest.

For those that have not been, here are a few pictures to show what transformations take place at the Gurnee park.

Under Marriott in Santa Clara, they had Halloween events. I will try to find some photos.

They were called Fright Night in Santa Clara. Seeing that I was always working, I never went around the park during the event. I remember each work unit was able to pick a theme that they decorated their area and dressed to. I don't remember anything like the above photos of Gurnee.

I remember that year fondly!

Yes we did decorate the various stations. I was in Skee Daddle that year and that night.

I remember bales of hay and cobwebs. I also remember one member of our crew dressed in fatigues with a toy machine gun.

This was in County Fair and we had the Free Throw Fanatic out in the center of the games area and then open space behind it.

Around 10 or 11 at night, we were scheduled until 1:00am as the park would close at midnight, one of the managers came running into Skee Daddle and told us to close the doors NOW. We didn't understand why right away but we did as we were told. After we had closed up shop we were told to stay in the back room and turn off all of the lights. Someone would come and get us when it was "safe". We still didn't know what had happened. It seemed like an hour but it was probably only 30 minutes later one of our managers came by and escorted us back to the main arcade. There we were told that a fight has started and security wanted to shut down the park. Which it did. And some of the people that had been fighting were being held. But they weren't sure if everyone had been caught so that's why we had to be escorted.

After we thought we got the all clear, the minors were told to go home, it was past midnight (by 10 minutes or so). The rest of us over 18 got to stay to finish the closing. So we restarted that and within a few minutes we had to shutdown again. About 5 minutes later we find out that a manager was out and saw a shadowy figure with a gun! We finally figured out that it was one of the workers with me... remember fatigues and machine gun!
Any way that was the most excitement I remember.

I remember

wearing a costume work. I was a black cat and I had a puppet that was wearing a witch hat. What black cat would be complete without a witch.

I also remember that while on the back of the train, giving my speil of what we were passing around the park. That there were times that some guests would get off of the train and then hide back stage. We would then call (once back to the station) security.

Sorry to bump this topic, but since I work at the Santa Clara Great America, I thought I'd share this with you. While I was in the locker room changing into my uniform, I saw a little sticker in the locker. It said "Fright Night at Marriott's Great America." It had Bugs Bunny on it. I'll try to show you a picture of it.

EDIT: I found it! Here's the pic. It's a URL since I don't know how to show it otherwise:

I think it's pretty amazing that the pin's probably been in that locker room for over 20 years!

Santa Clara, roll out the Red Carpet!

Thats right. The Crypt Cruiser is coming to town. I've decided to blow off my annual Knott's Haunt run (which is local) To grace you Northerners with my presence. I'm going to check out CGA's Haunt. I'm going in the day too. I haven't been in a couple of years, so I'm anxious to see the changes Cedar Fair has made. I plan to be a real Shutter Bug so if you see a good looking Blonde guy with camera in hand it's probably me. I'll be there the 25th which is in a few hours. Sorry for the short notice. Anyways, I can't wait to get there. I'm sure I'll have a great time.
See you there!

Also it seems some of you haven't watched "Summer Days" yet. That RCT3 movie with the new scenery I promised. I't done and up. Check it out!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OKqR3U1LwE
