Main Entrace pictures?

Post by xxlatinogueroxx »

Does anyone have any new pictures of the main entrance of the MGA days? I was thinking about the current entrance to SFGAm and notice how they have american colors on the buildings. I was thinking that looks pretty tacky and wanted to see if it looks better from the orignal days or now. Thanks!

The original colors of the buildings in Carousel Plaza from 1976 to 1980 were mostly cream, yellow, & brown. This pic from the photo albums shows the original ticket booth colors....same color scheme was used for the rest of the from gate buildings.

http://www.greatamericaparks.com/albums.html

In 1981, the entire front of the park was repainted in a Red, White & Blue theme...even the ticket booths & guest relations counters received new royal blue formica counters and royal blue mini-blinds (they originally had almond color counters and blinds and guest relations had weird dark burgundy carpeting on the floor). The Admissions crew also got new costumes (red, white & blue) that year.

However, the R, W, & B theme back then was more reserved...no solid fire engine red buildings or bright blue walls....it was mostly white walls with blue trim and some red accent colors.

After Six Flags bought the park, they started painting all the building really vibrant (tacky) colors. The old Theatre Royale went from a pale pink with cream trim to bright fire engine red with pure white trim. Yes, it made it more noticeable but took away from the more traditional New Orleans color scheme that Marriott had originally used.
