General discussion about Marriott's GREAT AMERICA

1976 my 1st moment

Postby brdwyguy » Tue Jan 06, 2009 7:20 am

:D my 1st moment entering Marriott's Great America in Santa Clara was in the winter of 1976, that's right BEFORE the park had opened. I was so fortunate to be chosen among 1800 auditions to be the 1st Great America Singer in the Grand Music Hall. We were all so proud and happy to work in the shows, I got to see the park prior to its opening. Seeing the Grand Music Hall stage being completed all for US! Doing a test ride on "Turn of the Century" roller coaster my 1st and LAST time on a roller coaster :).

The excitement of opening day, meeting famous people, there to watch and congratulate us. Clint Eastwood, Merv Griffin, Roy Rogers & Dale Evans, The Osmand Brothers and of course Mr Marriott himself.

I worked in the shows for 3 years 1976-1978 and was so very proud to be working there, doing what i loved most.
