Big Top was actually just relocated to Southwest Territory. It's now the Roccochet (sp?)

Another original ride that was short lived was the Spinnaker, It was replaced by the Tidal Wave. Its hard to find a good photo of it, but I noticed it in Steven's photo below. The ride (round, white) is on the left

Just a suggestion... if we're going to include Big Top/Richochet on the list, then we should probably also include Saskatchewan Scrambler/Hometown Fun Machine, Orleans Orbit/Orbit, Turn of the Century/Demon, and Lobster/East River Crawler.

On the other hand, we might consider removing from the list rides such as these that are still in the park but have moved and/or changed names.

I agree with Andy. ''Big Top'' techincally is still operating in the park, so it should be removed.

^As well as Rue Le Dodge, Great American Raceway, and Ricochet/Big Top.

**Quick Question: Did the Six Flags takeover happen before, during, or after the 1984 season? If it was during or before, wouldn't Roaring Rapids(Whitewater Rampage) be a Marriott ride?

Yes, the Gurnee rapids ride was the last Marriott ride. The Marriott / Six Flags changeover took place during the 1984 season.

Thanks Steven :D

I've been really into the history of SFGAm for a few years now, and there are a few things I've been trying to figure out, and that was one of them.

Thanks for your help! :)

The actual date of the change in ownership of the Gurnee park from Marriott to Six Flags was June 1, 1984. I remember that very well because it was just 9 days after the Edge accident. Hard to believe so much time has passed! I still have my season pass cards and the '84 is the last with the Marriott name.:D
What a day, what a place! What a smile on my face! My first visit was June 21, 1976, when I was less than a month from turning 21!
