Original Flat Rides

Post by Santa Cruisin »

What where the original flat rides at Gurnee?

In Santa Clara I remember:

The Triple Play (gone)
Bottoms Up (gone)
Hilltopper (gone, was near Turn of the Century entrance)
Fiddler's Fling (name changed to Centrifuge)
Yukon Yahoo (gone)
Saskatchewan Scrambler (moved near Demon entrance and renamed Industrial Revolution (now gone).
The Lobster (gone)
Orleans Orbit

Here is the list as I remember it from the Gurnee Park
  • The Triple Play

Bottoms Up (removed after 1983 season)

Orleans Orbit (moved in 1984 to Bottoms Up location and is now called Orbit)

Industrial Revolution (gone, sat next to Demon)

Hay Bayler (Removed at the end of the 2000 season, along with Sky Whirl to make room for Deja Vu for the 2001 season. )

Big Top (moved to SW Territory in 1996, and is now called Ricochet)

Davey Jones Dinghies (gone. Sat in Orleans Place)

    Flidders Fling

Lobster (Now called East River Crawler. Name was changed in 1992 when Batman the Ride went in, to fit with the "Gothem City" theme)

Whirligig (has moved around a few times, and had a few name changes. But, is currently called Whirligig again and sits in front of Batman The Ride)

Yukon Yahoo (Bayern-Kurve. Moved to where Condor now sits and was called "Delta Flyer". Interesting choice of names, as that was the name of that end of the Sky Ride that ran between Orleans Place and Co. Fair. At the end of the 1990 season, it was removed and Condor was put in its place)

Saskatchewan Scrambler (Moved next to Whizzer and renamed HomeTown Fun Machine)

Spinnaker

Another original ride that was short lived was the Spinnaker, It was replaced by the Tidal Wave. Its hard to find a good photo of it, but I noticed it in Steven's photo below. The ride (round, white) is on the left

Spinnaker was removed in 1977, and Tidal Wave was installed in 1978

Can an admin fix the broken link above for the Southern Cross image that shows the Spinnaker? It should be http://www.greatamericaparks.com/images ... =139&pos=7
