Not much traffic here, but I felt the Gurnee Pictorium deserved a final farewell post.
IMAX (the "real" IMAX) was a big deal back in the day and the Pictorium was an amazing visual experience. Walking in and seeing that massive, 6 story screen (made of one continuous piece of material ) was really incredible. It really fit the entertainment experience Marriott sought to deliver.
I saw a lot of IMAX movies in the Pictorium over the years, but my personal favorite has always been Speed. Seeing or hearing about references to that film, to this day, takes me back to air-conditioned days in the Pictorium at Great America.
Today, VR is used to provide a fully immersive visual experience but those original 70mm IMAX files just can't be duplicated.
So here's to the Pictorium and the memories it created. Another Great America landmark added to the history books...

Re: Gurmee Pictorium
RIP Picto! Seemed like she kept it going far longer than anyone expected.
