Admission Prices

Post by JW65 »

I was looking through some old GA brochures from the Gurnee park that I have and found the following admission prices for the years listed below.

Year: 1978 Adults 12-61 $8.95 Children 4-11 $7.95 Seniors 62 and over $5.95

Year: 1980 Adults 12-61 $10.95 Children 4-11 $9.95 Seniors 62 and over $7.95

Year: 1984 General Admission Ages 4-54 $13.50 Seniors 55 and over $7.95

Year: 1985 (Santa Clara brochure) General Admission Ages 4-54 $13.95 Seniors 55 and over $7.95

Some other brochures I have in my collection do not list admission prices. If anyone has more admission price information they'd like to add in a reply to this post, please do so.

I think it was $7.95 for an adult the first time I visited in April '76.

I remember my first visit to Marriott's Great America in Gurnee, IL. It was on June 21, 1976, and I am sure we bought our tickets at a Jewel food store for $7.95 each. I believe that might have been a $1 or $2 discount over admission at the gate. Hard to believe how prices have changed over the years, but look at everything else! I purchased my first season pass in 1983 and the cost might have been around $50 at that time, but I am not sure on that. I am glad the park is still there and thriving! :D
What a day, what a place! What a smile on my face! My first visit was June 21, 1976, when I was less than a month from turning 21!

I am NOT lying. Today, one day admission for adults (7-55? :o) is a whopping FIFTY BUCKS! That's why I get the WOW! card, where you get in for the season for the price of one day.

visit to GA in Santa Clara was befor they opened. My family would go down and see them builing the "Turn of the Century", now known as the Demon. My dad even got movie pictures of a test run.
Our family went on Opening Day, July 4, 1976. They gave out frisbees to all the guests.
Gee wonder what we ever did with them??

An adult ticket at Gurnee this year is $54.00!!!!!!!!!!!! Kids tickets are about $10 less. Wippty Do. And parking!!!! Parking is $15!!!!!!!

I do remember it being $7.95 and then it going up to $12.95, and then when it was up to $25 when I was in high school we all thought THAT was insane.

Thank goodness we have friends who have memberships and they get FREE passes for friends. There's no way I could afford to go with my family. It would be $200 just to walk in the door!!!!!!

Now at PGA, the WOW! cards are $51.99. They hiked up the prices. A VIP pass is $84.99 is you buy them individually. If you want to buy a one day admission (not a season pass) online, they're $34.99. And parking is $10.
