Re: New Owners of California's Great America (Santa Clara)

I wonder what this means for Gilroy Gardens, which is managed by CF. With the big sister park right up the street, it was a natural fit. Now, with the nearest CF park in SoCal (Knott's), I wonder what will happen. And, it's too bad we didn't get to see more of Matt Ouimet's influence on the park. He...

New Owners of California's Great America (Santa Clara)

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KGO) -- The 49ers plan to build a new stadium next to Great America amusement park in Santa Clara received a boost today. Real estate investment firm, JMA Ventures, announced it has reached an agreement to buy Great America, and work with the 49ers to integrate the park with the...

I was unable to find my employee yearbook. If it ever turns up, I'll post what I find.

And "their" Great America is one of the properties that may be sold off (to the SF 49ers even), so unlikely the Great Americas will be reunited in the same family again. :(

We made that trip (the other way - visiting Gurnee) a few years ago. It was a blast. And it was a bit strange. Most things were where they were supposed to be, and some were not. I remember taking a lot of pictures to compare when I got home.

<<Sad times for the Security family.>> Sad times indeed. There was always something special about that department. I guess when you have to trust people to watch your back, you appreciate them a bit more. Station1: Speaking of Doty(or was it Dotty?) Do you remember Doty "voguing"? There wa...

I believe at CGA, the full time nurse on staff retired about a year or two ago. At that point, I think her position was replaced with an EMT (much cheaper).

In the old days, at Santa Clara, there was a full time nurse, and a few EMTs for during the operating season.

Slight correction: Boomerang Bay (the water park area) was closed. The rest of the park remained open as usual.

Sad news.

If you notice in the above captions from Dorney, BOTH local parks are using the updated names, Knott's Great America and Gilroy Gardens. So it looks like that website is the most up to date, and that CF just hasn't formally announced the new name for the park yet. When I first heard it, I didn't lik...

I don’t remember exactly which year(s) it was, but near the end of the season(s) in about 1990-1991, I was trained on many rides as a loader/unloader, and on a few as the sole operator(small carousel, for example). I wasn’t even in the rides department. I would work my regular shift, then work a few...

They said the RR Rapids rafts could not flip over until about the second week we opened, one raft lingered just outside the station turntable and another left the station and both rafts were side by side and because of the current, the rafts spun against each other and the lighter one began to tilt...

What makes it easy is that the Paramount sign above the Great America part seems like it could just be removed easily and be replaced with Cedar fair. Where is that sign? Is it where the old one was next to the 101 freeway? What are those things on the left as the look like little hills, but its on...

"I hated the Orbit. Always puked when I got off it. :?"

Funny. I hate spinning rides, but I loved Orbit.

I don't mean loved in the "It's gone so we can talk in the past" meaning, I just haven't been on it in years.

I hope to ride it again...
