Re: Which themed costume did you hate to wear?
I didn't mind any of the men's costumes but I felt sorry for the women that had to wear the County Fair costumes...they always reminded me of clown suits.

Re: "SCR*EA*MS and Dreams" premieres today
Thanks for the review, Marcos! I'm looking forward to seeing the film myself on Great America Alumni Day. I'm hoping many of the Marriott-era employees I knew will be able to attend that day.

Great America Alumni Day - June 26, 2011
Are any Marriott-era employees planning on attending "Great America Alumni Day"? If so, maybe you can post a reply here with your name, unit(s) worked, and years. Maybe we can find a few long-lost friends this way. I'd also suggest emailing SFGAMspecialevents@sixflags.com and request to be...

Re: Carousel Columbia Injury!
While I don't remember hearing about your injury on the carousel, I can confirm that Sky Trek Tower definitely opened in 1977 in Gurnee. If you also remember seeing Tidal Wave on that particular visit, it would have been a year later since Tidal Wave opened in 1978 in Gurnee.

Re: 1983 Marriott's GREAT AMERICA commercial for THE EDGE
If I remember correctly, there was a MGA logo on the back panel of the ride unit above the rider's heads. Is that it?

Re: rare Marriott's GREAT AMERICA Preview Center music
Steven, thanks so much for sharing this. I had never heard this song before (at least not that I can remember). I lived in the Chicago area in the '70s. I vaguely remember hearing about a Great America preview center at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, IL but I never got there to see it. I'm surprised ...

Re: What a great site and wonderful memories
Hi Rich, I didn't know there was a tv show shot inside the Santa Clara park. I knew Beverly Hills Cop III was filmed in the Santa Clara park. More recently (circa 2006), there was a Star Wars fan film called "'77" that was partially filmed in the Gurnee park. Unfortunately, that film still...

Re: Another Couple of Marriott Buildings Torn Down
While I agree that "Food Court" is a more accurate description, I would think that after 33 years' of being known as "Farmers' Market" most guests would know that "Farmers' Market" was a food court. Great America draws the majority of it's guests from the greater Chicag...

Re: POV photo strapped into the Tidal Wave
Nice picture! Was this taken in Santa Clara? I can see the Service Road on the right and the Triple Wheel in the far distance. What is that huge cream-color building on the left side of the picture?

Re: thirsty?
I remember those styrofoam cups. The styrofoam helped keep the drinks cold and didn't form condensation on the outside. Unfortunately, styrofoam is not biodegradable...so I'm not surprised those cups survived so well all these years. To talk about Marriott's accountabilty ...As Steven pointed out, M...

Re: Wilderness Theater
I remember the animal show at Wilderness Theater in Gurnee in '76, '77, '78. I'm not exactly sure when the animals went away. After the animals show left, there was a Yukon-theme stunt show...all I remember was there were lumberjacks who climbed a really tall pole on the stage and log rollers in the...

Jon, don't you have any extra space in your backyard? I wonder what happened to the giant plastic lobster that used to be in the center of the ride?

Re: Gurnee's Sky Trek Tower in the process of new paintjob
What shade of blue? Maybe both Gurnee and Santa Clara will have matching towers again (Gurnee's is 100+ ft taller though). When Marriott installed the Towers in both parks, the cabins were both "Great America" Red. The Santa Clara park repainted their cabin "Great America" blue s...
