The Eagle has landed

Rumors among park employees about the American Eagle roller coaster:

1. AE will be torn down with no immediate plans to build something in its place.

2. One side will say the AE, the other will be refurbished into a new type of hypercoaster.

Anyone have some inside information?

Re: A Little More Marriott Era Gone from Gurnee

The ticket sales building was in pretty sad shape. Years of neglect resulted in leaky roofs and lots of rotting wood trim. Lighting fixtures were rusting and would short out. Most of the electrical hook ups and computer connections were pretty much patch shops. Sad to see it go but the buildings wer...

Scream and Dreams 3...Enough is Enough

Part one was interesting to us who remember the Marriott years. Part two left a lot to be desired. Part three...well, not much left to present. It is time to give the concept a rest. This overall long...and oddly out of focus...production only shows how little SF has done with the part recently. Mor...

Shorter hours for 2013 season

You had better check the online schedule before going to Great America. Doors now open at 10:30 AM. Most eateries do not open till 11:00. Many of the shops do not open till 11:30 or 12:00 noon. According to a SFGA supervisor, hours will change per flow of customers through doors. But look for parts o...

Major Fail for SFGA Food Ops

Yes, the food is expensive. Yes, the food is low quality....unusually greasy and always the wrong temperature. SFGA opened the 2013 season with several food stands lacking straws, forks, condiments, and napkins. Never would happen under Marriott who had great pride in service and the high quality fo...

Good Bye Home Town Square

Another bit of Marriott has disappeared. In order to make way for the new IGNIGHT (SFGA spelling, not mine), those fine folks at SFGA have turned Hometown Square into a giant concrete expanse. Gone is the music stand, trees, landscaping and benches. I hope they still do more to make the area a bit m...

How would you make Great America world class?

List of top 20 parks came out. Yes, a Six Flags park madethe list. No Great America. What should be done to make Great America a world class park again?

Re: Beserker/Yukon Yahoo Question

Check the "rides" second of this site. Another product of the Anton Schwarzkopf company of Germany, the trade name for the Yukon Yahoo ride is "Bayern-Kurve". On the Yukon Yahoo, a train of bobsled cars races around a circular track, thrilling riders as it accelerates. Originally...

Re: Screams and Dreams Vol. 2 on Youtube

Part 2 did not hold my attention as well as Part 1. Six Flags has little to say in this version except the same POV shots on roller coasters. The SFGA employees have little to add. One can see the slide from the ultimate themepark that was MGA to the gaudy little amusement park that it has evolved i...

Re: 2012 Opening Weekend Trip Report - Gurnee

Thanks for the report on opening day. Great photos too. My thoughts: 1. Andres will always mean french fried to me! Remember how they were served in a paper cup...and plenty of salt? 2. Food prices are still insane at SFGA. Corn dog and fries for $9.99!! Chicken strips and fries for $10.99! Lareg co...

Re: GOODBYE BUGS BUNNY NATIONAL PARK

I still can't believe the whole area is gone. It was nicely themed. The go cart track is a real scar in the park. No attempt at and landscaping the area. Very noisy. They also ripped out several old Marriott facade that were hidden behind the Buzzy Bee Ride.

Which themed costume did you hate to wear?

I really hated the "sailor outfits" for yankee harbor. Loved the north country outfits for loggers fun...those suspenders were something else. How about you?

Re: Buffet Le Grand

NO NO NO....You should go ot the park. You can still see the brillance of Marriott's park design and decoration. The grand park is there and the mature landscaping makes it look even better. Just don't go expecting good food!!

California Great America is SOLD to JMA

On September 19, Cedar Fair announced an agreement to sell its California Great America Amusement Park to JMA Ventures for $70 milliion in cash. That sounds like a pretty good deal considering the price of land in the area and the fact the Six Flags said it would cost more than $300 to build an amus...

Re: X-Flight coaster coming in 2012

SFGA still claims the X-flight will be the first coaster of its type. Umm, Dollywood is building the same coaster. And will open first.
