Scary how much useless knowledge is crammed in my brain. :) Now here's an odd question: the one footing is obviously still there (given the number of studs, I'd say it had to have been for one of the main tower supports) -- but where is the other footing opposite of the one that is still there? Look...

I suspect this is where the ride control systems (computers) were housed. This same building is visible in some of the Edge pictures posted in Tech Services 1's photo album ...

Oh yeah ... I think my cousin and I rode the Tidal Wave back-to-back something like 15 or 20 times. There was NO line, so it was get off, and get right back on before the next launch.

I could barely walk straight by the time we were done.

Looks to me like they torched or cut the studs that are cast or screwed into the footers.

Great pics, Brian. Thanks for sharing. That's one area of the park that certainly hasn't changed in the past 25 years. :)

I'm undecided on the paint job. but leaning toward not liking it. Of cousrse, I should point out that I have not seen it in person. The pictures look a little on the gaudy side to me. Again, maybe it's better in person. Can't wait to take my 5 year old daughter to SFGAm for ride on the Columbia. I k...

Awesome milestone! I first rode the Eagle in 1981 on a band trip in grade school. My buddy and I waited a total of 3.5 hours in the queue to get a ride on the blue side. Every time I see that empty queue line under the tent (assuming it's still there) -- I flash back to that day in '81 when I went t...

Good question! I don't think I ever even wondered about it. I actually did not miss it because I like the Drop Zone so much better. When an older ride is replaced with a newer and improved version, it's not so hard to take. Too bad, though, that Drop Zone was dropped in on the Ameri-Go-Round's site...

SC Edge

This quesiton came up a while ago and wasn't answered: What ever happened to the SC Edge? We know the Gurnee one has recently gone to the tangelo orange scrap heap ...

My Edge curiosity kicks in again ... Robb -- I realize the ride was over 20 years old, but what kinds of problems did GL have keeping the ride up? I mean -- it seems like all you hear about the first gen freefalls is how they were/are maintenance nightmares and that they were/are always down for som...

Thanks for the reply. I suspect that there is a lot of custom fabrication that the park does itself or has to out source. A local park here in Denver (Lakeside) has rides that are way older than anything in Gurnee and I'm sure they do a lot of on-site fabrication.

Wow -- I was really bummed to see this thread. I always had planned on some day taking a trip to Geauga Lake to get a ride on the original Gurnne Edge. Guess that won't happen. :( It is sad to see that parks are retiring the first generaetion Freefalls. From a maintenance and marketing standpoint, I...

Ride Maintenance

Ok -- question for your maintenance people out there. When a new ride was installed (say, Shockwave) -- what type of training was done to allow you to keep the ride up and running? Were there just regular maintenance manuals that were followed or was there specialized training provided by the ride m...

We used that to get to the "inside" ring of the cabin, which was little more than a catwalk out in the open air. Now that would be really freaky riding up the tower that way. :) Very cool. So, does the stairwell that starts at the base of the tower go all the way to the top? And exact how...

Oh man ... I remember the Z-Force commercial, but not others. Sad that it now sits in obscurity at Magic Mountain.
