Hot Shoppe

In your photos of Trudy's Sweet Shoppe (I remember when this was located where the Opera House Sweet Shoppe used to be!), where the small bay window is on the left, that's where Hot Shoppe used to be.

Kennel

I started and ended my seasonal career at SFGAm at the Front Gate and occassionally you were asked to work at the Kennel. It was never a bother... the puppies were cute. It never brought in that much money $3 for a dog I think and maybe the same for a cat, although who in their right mind would brin...

Shooting Galleries

I used to work in Cash Control at SFGAm and we used to have to collect all the coins from the arcades at the end of the night. Arcades were never a problem, but shooting galleries were always a nightmare. If not only because they were eternally creepy (especially Northwest), it was also because they...

Skeedaddle/ Games Gallery Arcade

Skeedaddle was originally (in both parks) in the building between Barney Oldfield and Pizza Luigi, and Games Gallery Arcade was the arcade in the main Games Gallery. In Gurnee, sometime (I don't know specifically when), they swapped Skeedaddle and GGA... same names, just different locations. When I ...

Gas station removed

I think it was removed in the early 90s or so. I vaguely remember there being something in the GRAM (the employee newsletter) about it being closed, or maybe people just talked about it. I know it happened while I worked there though.

Famer's Market

Both parks had identical seating arrangements and gazebos when they were built (I miss the way it used to look). SC kept theirs that way for a long time. When I visited in 1990 they still had it the same as when Marriott built it, but by then Gurnee had taken all the structures down and it really lo...

Buffet Le Grand / Spaghetti Levee / Bourbon Street Cafe

From what I was told when I worked there in the 90s, Buffet LeGrand was a full-service restaurant with wait staff, full menus and everything. This was THE classy place to dine at MGA... but it only lasted a few years or so. Later that location was changed to "Spaghetti Levee" and then late...

Ferris Wheel

I remember reading somewhere (and I can't remember where) that the ferris wheel was removed when they built Z-Force. They did move the train station, which is why the ferris wheel was removed. (I have to wonder if they actually physically MOVED the building or just built a new one to exactly match t...

Here is a more recent view of the Delta Flyer Station in SC http://www.pbase.com/suresh2/image/5082365 For me, this kinda brings back old memories of Gurnee. I do not believe the Gurnee station was reused for anything. It being boarded up for a year or so. Then it was torn down and the space stood ...

Gurnee Circus Show

I distinctly remember sitting in the grandstand and watching some type of circus show in Gurnee when I was a kid. I don't remember any specifics, however, because I was probably all of 6 or 7 years old at the time. But I do remember the structure and that there were seats. I always thought the tent ...

Carousel Song - Updated Lyrics

I was following along to the lyrics posted here while listening to the Carousel Song.. and whoever posted them to that other site did a nice job, but made a bunch of mistakes. :) So... here are the corrected lyrics: The Carousel Song See the carousel turning round and around there, It's a fantasy, t...

Carousel Song - Here it is!

Hey all First time post-er (but longtime fan of this site). I was lucky enough to obtain a copy of the Carousel Song while I worked at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee. I won't divulge HOW I got it.. but let's just say I have it. :) I had sent Steven a CD of the song, along with a bunch of snippets...
