I like how the Demon sign is on the map.

I scanned my earlier park book today, all 20 pages. I previously thought it was from 1976 or 1977 but since Tidal Wave can be seen, we know this was from 1978 or later.

Also, Here is my 1982 book which I had posted last year (in case you have not seen it)

I remember that book from 1982. That was the book that I had purchased in 1983 from a bargain closeout of Marriot's merchandise. Thanks for the memories...:)

While this is a little late, I also noticed the big maps from 1986 and 1987. I believe I once had both of them. Good job scanning those because from what I remember those were HUGE

I wish I could get my hands on at least one of those books.

redfishpaw: When I looked at your earlier park book I noticed one picture towards the end had a copyright date of 1978 at the bottom.

^ I looked for the year but didn't notice it Thanks for pointing it out.

Also, Another copy of this book was for sale on ebay a month or so ago. I believe it sold for around $22.00 along with an old park map. I was tempted to bid on it in the interest of getting an extra copy,. but then I decided let it go.

I'll be scanning another park map sometime soon

They're back, you get one when you park from the toll booth.

Which means I'll never get one, since I don't have to go through the toll booth when I visit the park. :(

When I went on opening day I couldnt believe the big maps were back. Mark Shapiro wanted to bring back the maps so as long as hes around the maps will be too. I havent gone that much so far so I have about 8 maps and will continue to collect more.

Next is the 1988 map for Gurnee

here is a large version

On the back I noticed that the gas station is mentioned.
It was located in parking concourse ''section N'', - self service,
closed one hour after park closing.

=========================================

also, I scanned the front side of a 1995 brochure
see bottom of this gallery for 3 (HIGH RES) pics

or see the (3) 1995 low res below

I reposted the 1976 map.

It is now one large file size (like I have done recently with other maps), instead of separate pieces

I actually remember that map. I didn't realize that we had one of those, but it looks fairly familiary (not bad for 30 years!)

My 1976 map has a few smalls tears on the side so I hope to get a mint one. My Santa Clara 1976 map has one small tear on the side so I need a mint one as well. I have a small scanner so it would be hard for me to copy both. I could copy a map in a 1978 brochure and a 1980 booklet.

I hate when they do this... they took a photo of Psyclone at SFMM and slapped a Viper logo on it. Six Flags is so lazy.

They probably did this because at the time they created these maps the rollercoaster was not fully constructed and operational.

Thanks for the heads up. My favorite used to be the commercials for the Z-Force. At the time I was thinking that there was a "dive" immediately after the initial drop. As that didn't happen, I can only surmise that either a different ride was used, or that there was another Great America park with the ride.
