Labor Day weekends

Was Labor Day weekend always the weekend when the 2 MGA parks would be open daily for the Summer before being reduced to weekends only for the rest of the season until the end of September and start of October?

That is the way I remember it. Also, The Gurnee park didn't start with the october weekends until 1990 (ish) when freight fest began.
