Carousel Song

Post by twixmix0303 »

I'm just curious about where you got a copy of the Carousel Song. I've searched and searched but could not find anything except what's on GREAT AMERICA parks. Most of the other soundtracks are available if you hunt around a bit, but not the Carousel Song. I suppose that's because it was created specifically for Marriott only.

The "Carousel Song" is by Gene Patrick, who was responsible for the terrific music at the parks. It was a custom tune specifically created for Marriott's GREAT AMERICA.

The snippet of the song that was recently made available for download here seems to be pretty popular -- more than a thousand downloads right off the bat.

I believe this is the song that is played upon closing at Six Flags Great America.

^ Yes it is. It is also played right after the national anthem in the morning.

What time do they play the national anthem? I've never made it to the park that early to hear it.

^ 9:30

I aways get to the park around 8:20 in the morning. They open the parking lot at 9:00ish and let people into Orleans Place, Carousel Plaza, Hometown Square, and Southwest Territory at 9:30.

Why do you get there so early? If you work there, that's awesome!

Oh my gosh! I just went and listened to this. I haven't heard it in years and I almost started crying. It put me right back at the main gate closing up for the night.

When I go to the park for opening, I also arrive between 7:30 and 8 AM. That way, I'm one of the first ones into the parking lot, so I get a close parking space. This also allows me to be one of the first through the gate.

With the park having metal detectors now, a lot of guests that go that early take a lot of time to go through them. This way, I'm in the park right away, and on a ride before most of them get into the park! :)

I sure would like to hear the song with the lyrics. Does anyone remember them all? I know it starts "see the carousel, spinning round and around..."

I've been meaning to get a complete copy of the Carousel Song to Steven for some time. I used to work at the Santa Clara park, and I too was/still am a big fan of the Park and its rich history. While working there, I was fortunate to obtain a copy of the Park's closing music soundtrack. This soundtrack featured the closing announcements, two patriotic melodies and of course the one and only, Carousel Song! In fact, the CD was going to be raffle items for the park's coaster event, Coasterpalooza! in 2003. Unfortunately, we never got the chance to make copies of the CD in time for the event, so we ended up giving away copies of the Demon Song instead. I do miss hearing the song being played just shortly after the Park closed as it had a Disney-esque feel to it. Anywho, I'll make an effort to get a copy of the CD to Steven soon so he can add it to the site and to share with all of you.

Looks like someone from SFGA posted the lyrics here:

http://sfgam.net/carousel.php

See the carousel spinning round and around there,
It's a fantasy make believe.
Take a journey on the merry-go-round,
It's magic when you're young.

Ride the sparkling steeds decked out in jewels,
There's a knight in shining armored vest.
It's all make believe, but no one can tell,
Enjoy your ride on the carousel.

Horses ride along, turning round and around there,
It's a fantasy make believe.
Take a journey on the merry-go-round,
It's magic when you're young.

See the carousel, catch a brass ring for luck.
Meet a special girl, hold her hand there.
Take a journey on the merry-go-round,
It's magic when you're young.

Bridge

See the carousel spinning round and around there,
It's a fantasy make believe.
Take a journey on the merry-go-round,
It's magic when you're young.

Ride the sparkling steeds decked out in jewels,
There's a knight in shining armored vest.
It's all make believe, but no one can tell,
Enjoy your ride on the carousel.

Horses ride along, turning round and around there,
It's a fantasy make believe.
Take a journey on the merry-go-round,
It's beautiful...It's wonderful...
It's magic even now.
