The minimum age for employees at both Gurnee and Santa Clara is 15. The federal labor law sets the minimum age, work hours, and types of work that minors can do. Because of the federal labor law, 15 year old employees can only work in certain positions and only for limited hours each week. 16 & 17 year old employees can work in more positions and for more hours than 15 year olds. Once you're 15, you'll need to check with the park to see what positions they're hiring for.

The federal labor laws put a lot of restrictions on employers. The laws are really strict for 15 year olds. The times of the day you're allowed to work and the # of hours per week are all based on your age...until you're 18. So McDonald's just avoids the hassle and only hires people 18 & over. Also, 15 year olds can't work with heavy mechanical equipment...like grills, fryers, etc. At the theme parks, 15 year olds can only work in a very limited number of positions....some that I remember are ticket taker, character, character escort, and theater attendant. 15 year olds can't be ride operators/attendants because rides are considered dangerous heavy machinery. Most parks including SFGA allow 16 & 17 year olds to be ride operators....but at Disney, you need to be 18 to be a ride op.
Don't get upset at the parks, it's the federal labor law that prevents 15 year olds from being a ride op. For a 15 year old, being a costume character is probably the most fun job available. Maybe some other GA employees can comment on what positions are available for 15 year old employees.

Hey Trippleplay93, you'll want to check with SFGA Human Resources (call around late January 2009 if you want to work there next summer). The issue the park has with hiring 15 year olds is that the Federal Labor Laws greatly restrict the number of hours and the times of day that you can work. I'm pretty sure there are some 15 year old positions available for Theater Attendants (the employees that post the show times, let the guests into the theaters before shows, guide disabled guests to the special seating areas, pick up trash in the theater between shows).
I think 15 year olds can also be costume characters and character escorts in the park and they're part of the Show Dept.
I'm not too sure if you'd be able to actually perform in a show because the hours they're involved for rehearsals, etc, will exceed the amount of time the Labor Laws say you can work. But check with the park anyway to make sure.

No...
Boring is indoors when it's 78 outside and you're stuck inside folding sweaters. Those years were the best of my young life and I'd go back for a repeat if I could....you know like in 'our town'.
