Delta Flyer / Eagle's Flight 2005

Post by steven »

Hi,

There's a new gallery added today with photos of Delta Flyer / Eagle's Flight and photos from Delta Flyer / Eagle's Flight in 2005. This includes a look at some more of the park's Halloween theming. The new gallery is here:

Steven,

Thanks for sharing those pictures. I have never been to the CA park, and I always enjoy looking at pictures from that park.

Nice pics Steve. Does anyone know why the Gurnee DF/EF get torn down?

Very nice Gallery Steven. Love the aerial views. Thanks!

I hate what they did to the train station.

I'm not sure why they were removed, but I know the cars were relocated to SFGAdv. Somewhere I have a picture of the cars sitting in the maintenance yard with the Great America logos still on them. They're still in operation though in this picture they've been taken off their hangers for the off-season: http://amusementpics.com/Notes/SFGAdv09 ... 20copy.jpg

Thanks for the kind feedback on the photos!

For me, the removal of Delta Flyer / Eagle's Flight from Gurnee was one of the worst things ever done to that park (rivaling the much-later removal of Sky Whirl). Ever since then, Gurnee lost most of its appeal to me. This is mainly because I love the skyrides so much and also because the Gurnee Eagle's Flight was the first ride that I worked. The summer spent on Eagle's Flight was one of the most enjoyable and most memorable that I've ever had.

GAcoaster, I did hear a long time ago that the Gurnee skyride cabins were sent to Six Flags Great Adventure (SFGAd). I'd love to see the photo you have of them sitting at their new home still displaying the GREAT AMERICA logos. How many were sent? If SFGAd got all of them from both Delta Flyer / Eagle's Flight and Southern Cross, that would have been eighty-four cabins. How many does SFGAd have today?

in this link, and many pictures of the Southern Cross Skyride the cabins are very low because they caused the cable to sag, how come this does not happen today on the SC skyride? Does it have to do with a regulation passed for safety (less cabins allowed at once) or were less cabins needed over time?

Very low, many cabins:

Nat sagging, few cabins:

Yeah Steven hasn't put in an Eagle's Flight/ Delta flyer page so I used the Southern Cross pictures in the rides section under Orleans Place. Also when you get to thumbnailsview there are sometimes more than one page of thumbnails so you press next for more( I think thats what your asking because it happened to me)

I have a question:
Was the Delta Flyer/ Eagle's Flight sky ride taken out by Marriott, or was that after the season and the Six Flags takeover?

I am searching my photos trying to find it. GAdv has about 60 cars on the ride currently, and I believe there are a bunch more still sitting in the maintenance yard, so I would guess we got them all.

I still haven't been able to find the pic I have of the Great America logo cars in the maintenance yard, but I did just post a bunch of pics of the Gurnee cars as they are today at Great Adventure: http://amusementpics.com/Skyride.htm

They were modified after they were put into service, with additional bars being added to keep people form climbing out (I believe this was done after a man climbed out of the skyride at Disneyland).
