Bugs Bunny walkarounds
Bugs Bunny walkarounds
For the Bugs Bunny walkarounds used at the Great America theme parks: Why did they make Bugs Bunny dressed in an American flag top hat and vest jacket suit outfit?
After the Gurnee Great America switched from Marriott's to Six Flags and kept the Looney Tunes walkaround characters, the Bugs Bunny walkaround became either plain Bugs or Bugs in a tuxedo.
At least Bugs Bunny in his Great America outfit can never be compared to the original rat looking Chuck E. Cheese when the first Chuck E. Cheese from 1977 to the early 1990's wore a red vest and red bowler/derby hat.

Bugs Patriotic Costume

i assume that the Bugs Costume was because
the park opened in the year of the bicenntenial (1976)
at that time EVERYTHING was patriotic.

Bugs's tux
I can tell you one thing about Bugs wearing a tux. It was much nicer in the summer to be just wearing a dickie, thin jacket and pants, than to be covered with fur as the other characters were. Except the Pigs, but they had thier own drawbacks.
Bugs Bunny Great America walkaround
I still have a Bugs Bunny Great America patriotic outfit plush doll I bought in 1982.
I remember also seeing the a plush doll of Great America Patriotic outfit Bugs Bunny in the Montgomery Ward 1985 Christmas catalog (which was the last catalog the Montgomery Ward store chain made before shutting down its catalog operations and 15 years before the Montgomery Ward store chain went kaput). There was even a Great America Patriotic outfit Bugs Bunny bean bag doll offered in a 1999 or 2000 Warner Bros. Studio Store Catalog.

Bugs Bunny walkarounds
At the Gurnee park, the walkaround Bugs remained in his "Uncle Sam" outfit until 1989. It was for his 50th birthday in 1990 that "Tux Bugs" was introduced, and used in one form or another until recent years, when walkaround Bugs began appearing naked.
Bugs actually had many different costumes for each area of the park.
Hometown - he had a really awfull looking outfit with brown striped knee length pants, yellow socks, oxfords, yellow and green plaid jacket and brown bowler hat.
County Fair - A pink terrycloth longsleave shirt, denim overalls, and a straw hat.
Yukon - A coonskin hat, fringed leather pants and jacket.
Yankee Harbor - A dark blue 1776 style admirals uniform with a big white feather plumed hat. Used quite often at other events and nicknamed Admiral Bugs.
Orleans Place - Green velvet jacket, top hat, and a big wide black belt. I don't remember much about this one as it was never used. It was really terrible looking, Now walks were done there as Orleans was far from the Show Ops building, and it is were Theatre Royale was, so they didn't want to have people see the characters right after coming out of the show seeing them.
There was also a patriotic Daffy that did walks occasionaly. He had Red and White striped pants with a jacket of blue with white stars. The most strange thing about this costume was that Daffys mouth was wide open. Very cumbersome and scary for children. It was originaly used in the parade when Daffy rode on the last float, but it didn't work well there.
I despertely need to scan my photos.

Yes, you do, because I want to see those outfits!
I was a walkaround at SFGAdv, and we had a basic black tux, the red white and blue tux with matching tophat, a one-off space suit (used just for the opening of Shockwave), and of course "nude" Bugs.

Walkarounds
We at the Gurnee park didn't have quite that wide a variation in Bugs Bunny costumes, although there were a few oddities. For us, Uncle Sam Bugs was typically the rule, but I faintly remember a couple of others. I remember one awful lime green bellbottomed outfit used for Easter promotions!...I think I have a photo somewhere as well. I too would love to see some of those other Bugs costumes you mentioned, as well as the weird patriotic Daffy! Sounds scary...
Those different outfits reminded me of another oddity: does anyone remember the little "sales pitch" shows/skits that some characters did on the street in different sections of the park? Wile E. sold gadgetry (in Yukon Territory?), Daffy sold novelties (I think?), and Sylvester sold fresh fish (in Yankee Harbor?). These schticks didn't last long, like a season or two, and the characters were always assisted by an escort.

At the Gurnee park in 1977 we used all the Bugs costumes Ed mentioned, although I remember our Orleans costume being lite blue.
The cue line shows were actually funny. The escort would pull along a rolling wagon which held the props and sound system, which was an 8-track tape running off a car battery. I was riding inside Wile's wagon, to do the Road Runner puppet. There was for some reason a hole cut out in the middle of the floor. As I was being pulled though the park, the tape giggle out of the deck and fell through the hole and onto the walk way of Yankee Harbor! I franticly got the escorts attention and fortunately she got to the tape before a guest or sweeper!
I also remember doing the Daffy show and haveing the tape gett slower and slower until the battery died. That was a fun performance!

What happened to walkarounds?
Very few Warner Brothers Character walk arounds. Most of the time, the characters are only seen in a short...and I mean VERY SHORT... daily parade. Guests kepts asking..but Six Flags won't have it. Instead, they had a really creepy guy (2008) walking around as the Riddler and a very tall - but in need of a girdle - guy as batman.
I've worked at both MGA and SFGAS. Marriott was more for family fun, Six Falgs is all about promoting a new ride.
